Micro-Realism
Micro-realism has skyrocketed in popularity over the last few years, most likely due to the new age celebrities branching out from the original roots of tattooing and trying something new within the Tattoo world. Micro-Realism Tattoo are exactly as they sound; small, intricate, detailed. Some examples of Micro-realism Tattoos are:
Avicii
Stan Lee
Tupac Shakur
As seen above, the lines used to construct a Micro-realism Tattoo are often small and as a result are very fragile. Therefore, the healing process for a Micro-Tattoo is far gentler than its counterpart, Traditional. One must take extra care not to pick or scratch a micro tattoo when its going through the healing stages, or any healing tattoo for that matter.
Micro-realism Tattoos differ from other tattoo style as a sole single-needle is used.

In doing so it enables artists to add more precision to their work, and allows for more detail in a compacted space. Unlike traditional tattoos that use a variety of different colour shades and needle sizes to help bring the image to life, Micro-realism tattoos are typically formed through light, graphite grey lines and airbrush-like shading, to achieve that delicate, realistic image.
The main benefit of a Micro-Realism Tattoos is the ability to use a small area of skin, whilst still being able to bring an image to life. Although most opt to go down the portrait route, usually their favourite artists and celebrities, there is a small sub-culture of insect tattoo lovers.
This may not be appealing to all, however to some the ability to get a small, realistic, tattoo of an insect, is the 'best' of what tattooing has to offer.
Unfortunately just like colour realism tattoos, Micro-realisms strongest chip is also its weakest. The fact they are inherently small and packed full of detail, makes them very appealing on the eye, however it also is what causes them to fade easily. This level of intricacy is simply not made for the skin, your immune system is actively working to get rid of a tattoo the minute the ink hits your body, and it has an easier time flushing out delicate single needle lines over thick traditional outlines. There is a reason people say bold will hold.
